wonderment
An installation by Alyssa Lewis & Laura Melling, Wonderment explores the connection between self and nature through the lens of a regional material palette.

Wonderment explores the connection between self and nature through the lens of a regional material palette. The installation is designed by Alyssa Lewis of Studio Block and Laura Melling of LM Studio, and is proudly presented by Green Theory during IDS Vancouver from October 1 – 8 2020. During the development of Wonderment, a collection of sculptural furniture was designed by Alyssa Lewis and Laura Melling in collaboration with Green Theory’s design team.
The installation offers two conceptual spaces that reframe our experience of nature: the garden and the forest. These environments are physically shaped by materiality – granite, metal, spruce, and textile – and inwardly shaped by our sense of wonder, calm, transparency, and immersion. Wonderment is an aesthetic response to our collective state of mind. The work of Studio Block and LM Studio spans interior design, conceptual styling, product design, photography, and art.

"It's an exploration of who we are as west coast Canadians, and a visual deconstruction of our landscape. At a deeper level, it evokes a sense of calm that we need right now."
Alyssa Lewis
"We share an intrinsic sense of wonder for materiality, experiences and the natural world - and it was this curiosity that informed our process and the creation of Wonderment."
Laura Melling

"Laura and Alyssa's honest approach to design elevated a collaborative process that resulted in a timeless installation and product."
